Math is a language - many even think of it as a universal language, but it is not culture-free. The ABCs of math are the numerals - one example is the 1, 2, 3s which is not standard as there are Roman and Mayan Numerals to name a few.
The doors to math talks are open to all …. no matter your age … no matter your interest, just join in for the fun!

Sundar STEAM Academy’s “SAT English Prep Workshop” offers intensive SAT English practice to maximize your score. We believe that every student can increase their SAT score with further guidance by a more knowledgeable other and optimal practice.
Prepping for the SAT is like prepping for your sport or academic team.
You need to practice. You need to develop muscle and mental memory.
The SAT is no different.
It is a different kind of critical thinking and writing assessment than studying for an A in an English class. Knowing and getting the correct answer is not enough!
You have not only to get it right but get the correct answer, even as you read and analyze the question.
SPEED and ACCURACY are key!
That is what this SAT Prep workshop will give you; the development of test-taking speed and accuracy! It will provide you with test-taking strategies, time-management skills, and further knowledge of the content being assessed on the SAT English portion.
Each session begins with an SAT English practice (Reading and/or Writing and Language), in alignment with the actual SAT English section, followed by an intensive review with a qualified teacher. With the students, the teacher will review every question, gather insight from the students, and provide a thorough explanation of the correct answer. In addition, the teacher will provide the necessary strategies to optimize performance and outcome on the test.
Students are expected to:
* Purchase and bring the required The Official SAT Study Guide to every session

With the students, the teacher will review every question, gather insight from the students, and provide a thorough explanation of the correct answer. In addition, the teacher will provide the necessary strategies to optimize performance and outcome on the test.
Students are expected to:
* Purchase and bring the required The Official SAT Study Guide to every session

1000 L Street (Double Tree), Modesto, CA
Wednesdays; June 12 to August 21
5:30 am - 8:30 pm
Fee: $500, 36 hours of intensive coaching (12 sessions)
GRADE LEVEL: 9th to 12th
Why should you take this workshop?
This is a preparatory workshop with plenty of drill and practice for
maximizing your score.
It is a MUST if you plan on taking SAT on August 24, 2019
Prepping for SAT is like prepping for YOUR SPORTS TEAMS:
You need to practice
You need to develop muscle memory.
SAT is no different. It is a different kind of “remembering and problem
solving” than studying for an A in a math class.
Knowing is not enough!
Getting the correct answer is not enough!
You have not only to get it right but get the correct answer figured even as you read the question. SPEED and ACCURACY are KEY!
That is what this SAT Prep will give you.
Speed and Accuracy
It will show you the path…
It will teach you tips and techniques on the SAT Math…
Not just that … it will teach you WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO
WHEN TAKING THE TEST. You need that edge to maximize your score!

GRADE LEVEL: 6th to 9th
The goal of the course is to create a "Can do!" feeling about Algebra. Algebra becomes doable when the first exposure to Algebraic Thinking is slow, deliberate and engaging. Children are never deterred by the challenges in learning -on the contrary, they thrive on it- but are disillusioned when it is hard to make out and inexplicable. Algebra is a language and if introduced and taught the way one learns a language, the learning will be self-assured. no better way to do it than using manipulatives that they can see, touch and manipulate. Just like the "Transformers" that can be manipulated to transform from car to person to plane and more, the tools in this Hands-on Algebra can be manipulated to understand the equations, inequalities and more. The sessions will be engaging and the activities will build their competence and confidence in Algebra.
The course will be led by Dr. Viji Sundar, Professor of Mathematics, who is an advocate for equity in the classroom. She firmly believes that all children can have algebra competence.

Students use their imagination as they plan a trip to the planet Mars. They will learn the concepts and motions of projectiles by building a prototype of a catapult. Then they will plan, design, build and test prototypes of a rocket ship with a payload, and built-in shock absorbers for safe landings. As they land on Mars, they must plan, design, and build a Martian Robot to navigate and survey the surface and report back to our Astronauts. Finally, our Astronauts set foot on Mars, bringing with them their own designed portable water purification device, to keep the humans hydrated, of course!

English Language Fluency Acquisition Program (ELFAP)
Oak Valley Community Center
1405 West F Street, Suite A, Oakdale, CA
2/23 - 4/13
GRADE LEVEL: 5th to 8th
Students will develop English acquisition with a combination of the following:
- Low-stress environment for language performance
- Physical involvement with language
- A large amount of interaction with students
- Small group reading instruction
- Whole group reading instruction
- Use of multiple mediums to present information
Expected Outcomes:
At least 50% of the participating pupils will improve their scores by one letter grade. It is only natural to ask how is the increase measured and what is the ‘test’ for this measure. The assessment will be a multipronged approach as the fluency in Language - unlike progress in mathematics - has several modalities as the communication is between the Speaker and the Listener.
